Replacement of a thiourea-S with an amidine-NH donor group in a platinum-acridine antitumor compound reduces the metal's reactivity with cysteine sulfur.

The reactivity of two DNA-targeted platinum-acridine conjugates with cysteine sulfur was studied. The conjugate containing an amidine-NH donor group cis to the chloride leaving group showed considerably reduced reactivity with N-acetylcysteine compared to the prototypical derivative containing a thiourea-S linkage. The opposite scenario has been observed previously in reactions with nucleobase ...

Calcite surface structure and reactivity: molecular dynamics simulations and macroscopic surface modelling of the calcite-water interface.

Calcite-water interactions are important not only in carbon sequestration and the global carbon cycle, but also in contaminant behaviour in calcite-bearing host rock and in many industrial applications. Here we quantify the effect of variations in surface structure on calcite surface reactivity. Firstly, we employ classical Molecular Dynamics simulations of calcite surfaces containing an etch p...

N-α-benzoyl-N5-(2-chloro-1-iminoethyl)-L-ornithine amide, a protein arginine deiminase inhibitor, reduces the severity of murine collagen-induced arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis is associated with the development of autoantibodies to citrullinated self-proteins. Citrullinated synovial proteins, which are generated via the actions of the protein arginine deiminases (PADs), are known to develop in the murine collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) model of inflammatory arthritis. Given these findings, we evaluated whether N-α-benzoyl-N5-(2-chloro-1-iminoeth...

Effect of NaNO2, HNO3 and H2SO4 on the structure and reactivity of gamma-alumina

The influence of NaNO2, HNO3 and H2SO4 on the structure and morphology of gamma-alumina was investigated by XRD, BET, SEM and FT-IR spectroscopy. Selected amounts of NaNO2, HNO3 and H2SO4 were added to a solution of aluminum isopropoxide (as a precursor for the boehmite synthesis). The boehmite samples were calcined at 350 and 600 ℃ to form the semi-crystalline high surface area gamma-Al2O3. Th...

Biophysical and transfection properties of DNA-DiC14-amidine complexes.

DiC14-amidine (N-t-butyl-N°-tetradecylaminopropionamidine) is a cationic lipid used as transfection agent in vitro [1] and as a vector for in vivo gene therapy applications. DiC14-amidine molecules assemble in a liposomal structure (transition temperature: 23C-critical micelle concentration: 10-7 M). Compared to other cationic lipids, diC14-amidine does not require a helper lipid. This property...
